Air Purifiers / Filtration / Dehumidifiers
Indoor air quality in Spring
Air purifiers, filtration, dehumidifiers and duct work from a Carrier Factory Authorized dealer, beginning with the filter sitting in your return duct right now.
Chapter 01
A standard filter protects the equipment, not the air
Standard filters work to keep your system and its ductwork clean, but they don't really improve indoor air quality. To do that you need a media filter. The media filter rests between the main return duct and the blower cabinet, and it improves dust and particle removal by seven times that of a standard filter.
Upgrading to a pleated media filter goes further. A pleated media filter will remove everything from insecticide dust to airborne viruses from the filtered air, which is a different job from the one a standard filter does.
Whichever filter ends up in the cabinet, always choose one that matches your blower's capacity. A filter that does not suit the blower works against the system it is meant to protect, so the fit is something we check against the unit rather than leave to whatever was on the shelf. If you are not sure what size or type your blower takes, that is a question for a technician with the cabinet open, not a guess made at a hardware store aisle.

An attic plenum with insulated flex ducts joined at a boot
The ducts are the other half of the air you breathe
A filter only cleans the air that passes through it. After that, the air has to travel through the duct run to reach every room, and in many Texas homes that run lives in the attic. Every joint, boot and plenum along the way is a place where conditioned air can leak out or attic air can slip in.
Red Star offers duct cleaning, sealing and repair as part of its indoor air quality work. The photo above shows an attic plenum with insulated flex ducts joined at a boot, the sort of connection a technician looks at closely, because a joint that has pulled loose or been poorly sealed undoes the benefit of a good filter upstream.
Commercial customers get the same attention. Duct inspection is part of the commercial maintenance visit, and the residential equivalent starts with the same question: where is the air actually going, and is it clean when it gets there? Answering that honestly sometimes means cleaning the ducts, sometimes sealing a joint, and sometimes repairing a section that has pulled apart, and we will tell you which of those the job actually calls for.
Chapter 03
Purifiers, dehumidifiers and one monthly habit
Beyond filtration, Red Star installs air purifiers and dehumidifiers. Houston-area homes spend much of the year with the air conditioner pulling moisture out of a humid house, and a dehumidifier gives that job a dedicated piece of equipment instead of leaving it entirely to the cooling cycle. We help match each product to the house and to the system already in it.
The habit that matters most costs almost nothing. For optimum efficiency and filtration, Red Star Cooling and Heating recommends that you replace your disposable filters at least once a month. If you have washable filters, they should be cleaned once a month. That one rhythm does more for the system than most upgrades. A filter changed on the first of each month is a habit that takes a minute and protects the blower, the coil and the ductwork all at once.
Carrier filters are only sold through Carrier dealers, which is why you will not find them in a home-improvement store. As a Carrier Factory Authorized dealer, Red Star can supply the right ones. Questions about what fits your blower? Call (281) 651-7827.
