Residential AC Repair

AC Repair in Spring, TX

Diagnosis before parts, by a Carrier Factory Authorized contractor serving Spring, The Woodlands and Greater Houston.

Chapter 01

The AC that runs but never catches up

Most homeowners know the symptom before they know the cause: the system runs and the house will not cool, water shows up around the air handler, or the unit will not start at all. Behind those symptoms sit a short list of culprits. A cooling coil that has gone unchecked, a primary or secondary drain that has quietly clogged, a motor drawing more power than it should, or a connection that has worked loose.

Red Star repairs residential air conditioning across Spring, The Woodlands and Greater Houston, and the work starts the same way on every call. Before anything is replaced, the technician finds out which of those problems is the actual one. That order is what keeps a repair from becoming a second visit.

Diagnosis before parts

A proper diagnosis is a set of measurements. Operating pressures tell a technician whether the refrigerant charge is right. Voltage and amp draw on every motor show which one is struggling. The cooling coil, the outdoor condenser coil, the drains, the blower and the thermostat each get looked at, because the failure you can see is often the result of one you cannot.

Sometimes that process contradicts what the homeowner expected. One customer wrote that after describing the suspected problem, the technician “came, diagnose it and told me it was something else.” The technician offered to bring both parts and swap them back if the customer's theory proved right. It did not. That is the standard we hold ourselves to: say what the system needs, not what is easiest to sell.

As a Carrier Factory Authorized dealer, we can also troubleshoot through the Carrier dealer network when a fault is unusual, and genuine Carrier parts are only sold through dealers.

Chapter 03

The 50% rule, and the repair that prevents the next one

Every repair quote runs through the same test. When the cost of repairs is getting close to 50% of your system's original value, you are better off financially upgrading. If a system has reached that line, we say so, and a free estimate on a replacement costs nothing.

When the system is worth keeping, maintenance is what keeps the next repair from happening. Yearly service for an air conditioner is designed to uncover leaks, rust, rot, soot, frayed wires and corroded electrical contacts that the naked eye may not notice. Improper maintenance is our number one reason for emergency calls, so a tune-up is cheaper than a middle-of-the-night visit.
